Typically, only up to 30% of students end up attending their high school reunions. Whether this is due to bad school experiences, busy adult lives, or just general disinterest, it’s clear that encouraging people to attend can be a challenge.
If you’ve been tasked with planning your reunion, you have a lot of responsibility on your shoulders! How can you make sure everyone has fun?
We’re here to help. Read on to learn how to plan a class reunion that people will enjoy.
Make Sure Everyone Gets an Invitation
This is a challenge when it comes to event planning for a class reunion, and it only gets harder as the years go on. How are you going to ensure that everyone gets an invitation?
Social media has made it easier, but not everyone uses it.
We recommend starting by creating a Facebook group or event and inviting the people you’re still connected with. Encourage those people to invite other people from your graduating class either via Facebook or through whatever method of communication best suits them.
You may not reach everyone, but do your best.
Pick the Right Venue
If you want a successful reunion, you need to pick a good venue. Otherwise, people may not even want to show up!
Try to estimate the number of people that will actually show up. Look for local venues in the town of your high school that can accommodate. Most of the time, you’ll have to pay a fee, so you may have to ask for money from your fellow classmates.
We recommend somewhere that can either provide food or that allows catering. They should also have room for entertainment.
Provide the Best Refreshments
People aren’t going to want to stay at your event if you don’t offer refreshments. You don’t need to provide a full meal, but you should at least have snacks (or appetizers) and drinks.
It’s customary to serve alcohol at reunions, but make sure to also have non-alcoholic options as well.
If you provide food, make sure you have something for a variety of dietary needs. It would be unfortunate to leave out people who have ethical, health, or religious dietary restrictions.
Hire Entertainment
Many people forget the importance of hiring entertainment for class reunions! Remember that reunions can become awkward quickly, so having an entertainer will make a huge difference.
Most people choose to have music for events. This way, classmates can still talk amongst themselves while the entertainer performs in the background. You could also hire a comedian, but this may discourage socialization, so keep it to shorter sets.
Keep Checking In
One of the most important parts of being a good host is making sure that everyone is enjoying themselves. Check in with your guests as frequently as possible.
This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have fun at your own event, but you should make your way around the room, chat with people, and keep an eye on what’s going on.
That’s How to Plan a Class Reunion
Figuring out how to plan a class reunion that your former classmates will actually want to attend is tricky. Use these tips to get started and you’ll be on your way toward an event that people will love.
